Mayoral update

Thu, Apr 26 2001 15:00 CET 56 Views
Week 5 - The Sofia Echo received a phone call from deputy mayor Petar Stankov's office on Wednesday this week.

Over a month ago a letter was published to Sofia's Mayor Stefan Sofianski with the offer of sponsoring the transliteration of all of the city's streets into the Latin alphabet. We now have the beginning of a response.

While we have yet to hear from Sofianski himself, this week's phone call was a promising start. It took a while, but we acknowledge that things in Bulgaria take a bit longer sometimes.

The woman who called, needed to clarify what exactly it was that we were offering, and said that she would speak to her colleagues and get back to us. While we wait, we do so with refreshed optimism that our offer will be accepted and we will be able to give something important to the future generations of expatriate residents in Bulgaria.
