Muslims pray for Bulgaria

Wed, Jul 25 2001 15:00 CET 429 Views
Bulgaria's Chief Mufti Selim Myumyun Mehmed said a public prayer for Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people at a traditional service, called mevlit, on Sunday. Usually the prayer is for fertility, peace, and protection from natural disasters. This year, the accent was on Bulgaria and the successful ruling of the new government.

The service, which was held in the village of Dolni Voden (Southern Bulgaria), gathered Muslims from the whole region. Kurban (soup from sacrificed lamb, for health and fertility) was cooked in 50 cauldrons and served after the prayer.
