Foreign Ministry warns against seeking asylum

Wed, Aug 01 2001 15:00 CET 17 Views
Following the substantial increase in the number of Bulgarians requesting political asylum in Western Europe, especially in Belgium and Norway, the Foreign Ministry issued an official reminder on Saturday. It stated that Bulgaria had been universally recognized as a free and democratic country where human rights were respected and whose nationals had equal rights and freedoms, irrespective of their social, religious and national standing. The Foreign Ministry also said it had official information that the European countries' authorities would not find any grounds to grant political asylum to Bulgarians and that such people would be returned to Bulgaria.
