There are some times when comfortable chairs at a patio bar are absolutely essential. One of these occasions is when a place has really bad service. Thankfully, Museum has comfortable chairs, because waiting was definitely on the menu.
I must admit that I am basing my comments on one visit alone, and everywhere has bad nights, but the service there earlier this week seemed to stem much more from blatant incompetence than the place being overly busy or any other reason.
Our waitress fell victim to that hard-to-resist flaw of forgetting that she had customers to serve and thinking that her job was to stand around all evening, looking pretty, and speaking with the other waitresses. Anytime I have to fully extend my arm and wave like I'm attracting a boat to shore, I think there's a bit of a problem.
In any case, we eventually managed to get some service and were able to enjoy the atmosphere and the surroundings of the Museum's terrace. As the name implies, it is in close proximity to a museum, the Archeological one in fact.
And it has put this benefit to good use, decorating the reasonably large patio's perimeter with fairly ancient-seeming artifacts in the form of rocks with various carvings in them. This doesn't quite complement the "Illy" umbrellas scattered around but I guess you can only get so authentic. The atmosphere though, deserves good marks as a visit will lead to you being in thoroughly relaxing surroundings.
The drink menu was full of fairly standard items, with what seemed like a focus on imported spirits. The cocktails available were fairly basic, although they did add a couple somewhat unique drinks entitled "Zeus" and "Gladiator," if for nothing else other than to keep the theme going.
As none of these concoctions appeared all that attractive, I decided to have my first milk shake since arriving in Bulgaria. I must admit that I would prefer to be talking about how I drank a triple Johnnie straight-up in one gulp, but the sad truth is a banana milk shake was much more of an attractive option. (Just for the record I did have a real drink before the shake.) I was not disappointed either, as it was definitely the best milk shake I've had in a while.
The Museum does have a fairly large menu in English filled with bistro-style food, and also has an indoor section for those nights when the weather restricts outdoor activity. I would recommend a visit to check it out, mostly because of its location and subsequent atmosphere, but just pray you don't get my waitress.
Does not pose a threat to life on the planet. The Sun is entering an increasingly violent period of its normal 11-year cycle. This interval of high activity, known as the solar maximum, is expected to peak in 2013.
When Etta James sang Mack Gordon and Harry Warren’s At Last, the dozens of other versions by everyone from Nat 'King' Cole to Beyonce seemed to pale in comparison.
