Officers from a specialized unit for drug laboratories raided an illegal lab in Sofia's Hipodruma district last Wednesday, announced the National Service for Organized Crime Control. The lab was discovered during an investigation into the death of a 62-year-old man, identified as Evstaii I, who was gassed to death.

The lab was found to hold over 3kg of amphetamine, 700 ecstasy pills, 50kg of ephedrine, 52kg of codeine, about 30kg of phenobarbital and over 100kg of other potent substances used in the synthesis of drugs. There was also equipment for the production of synthetic drugs.
