Watch out!

A few errant tee shots, 10 free pints of Guinness, and several lost bets marked the first ever Sofia Echo-Flannagans Golf Challenge last Saturday.

Fourteen golfers battled the hot weather at Ihtiman over the weekend in an attempt to tackle the 18-hole course there. Four teams took part, playing in Texas Scramble (best ball) format with the winning team, led by Ron Finley, shooting a seven under par.

The day proved to be an expensive one for Seth Underwood from Flannagans, who promised last week that he would buy the members of any team that beat his, a pint of Guinness. Underwood's team finished last at three under par, and he spent the rest of the afternoon paying off his debts.

The most honest golfer award went to Krassi Guergov whose errant tee shot at the 15th hole gained him the prize. After his shot cleared two fairways and hit a local spectator in the head, Guergov explained "I thought the green was over there."

For his honesty, Guergov won a six-month subscription to The Echo.

The spectator was allowed to keep the golf ball as a souvenir.

The golf challenge will take place again next weekend. For more information contact Seth Underwood at 088 972525 or Brendan Howe at 088 826443.
