Wed, Aug 15 2001 15:00 CET 85 Views
Two armed men robbed guests of the Venera Hotel in the Black Sea resort of Albena at 4.30am last Wednesday. They stole jewelry and currency amounting to $39,000, and the identity documents and airplane tickets of 24 tourists from Sweden, Holland, Greece, and Macedonia. Police arrested the suspects, an 18 and 23-year-old, the next day. The two are a former barman and waiter in the Venera Hotel and are both from Dupnitsa (southwestern Bulgaria). The police found them drunk in a hut near Dupnitsa. They had burnt the passports and airplane tickets but the guests' jewelry and foreign currency were intact, and were to be given back to their owners.
