Serbia unilaterally closes two border crossings

Wed, Aug 22 2001 15:00 CET 38 Views
Serbia unilaterally closed the border crossings at Vrushka Chuka and Strezimirovtsi (Northwestern Bulgaria) to trucks, buses and minibuses at midnight last Wednesday. Only cars were allowed to cross the border through those checkpoints. Other vehicles were required to use the checkpoints at Bregovo and Kalotina.

According to unofficial information, the restriction was introduced in order to stop illegal smuggling channels. After protests from Serbian transport companies, the Serbian authorities reopened the Vrushka Chuka border checkpoint for passing in both directions last Friday.
