New visa restrictions

Wed, Sep 12 2001 15:00 CET 32 Views
Russian, Ukrainian and Georgian citizens will require visas to enter Bulgaria from October 1, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release on Tuesday.

The introduction of visa regulations for these countries is related to the commitments Bulgaria has made in the process of accession to the European Union. Now that Bulgaria is part of the Schengen agreement it must put visa restrictions on non-Schengen countries. The move is based on a decision made by Bulgaria's Council of Ministers on April 2. The Ministry is now conducting intensive talks with the foreign policy authorities of the three countries.
