Russian pop idol sings at petrol celebration

The world famous Russian singer Alsu is coming to Sofia tomorrow to take part in a big celebratory concert.

The Bulgarian branch of the Russian petrol company Lukoil will celebrate the 10th anniversary of operations here with a concert starting at 8pm on Saturday in front of Alexander Nevski Cathedral.

Alsu is expected to arrive at the concert in a hot air balloon, said the organizers from Lukoil-Bulgaria. A spectacular firework show has also been planned for the event that will include other popular Bulgarian and Russian musicians.

Alsu is the first singer from an Eastern European country to have signed a contract with the leading world music company Universal. According to the contract, which was signed earlier this year, the singer will record seven albums in English that will be promoted in 35 different countries.

Alsu is not coming to the Lukoil celebration by chance. Her father Ralif Safin is vice-president of the petrol giant.

The 18-year-old singer gained international fame by herself. She recorded her first album called Alsu in 1999 but became internationally famous last year after her duo of the song `You're my number one' with Enrique Iglesias. The ambitious musician is currently preparing an album with songs in English, which include some of her own compositions.

Other performers at the Lukoil concert will be Bulgarian pop group Familia Tonika, female trio Antibiotika, boy band D2, and Russian artist-singer Andrei Gubin.

Visitors will have the chance to try their luck in the many lotteries prepared by the organizers. Prizes will range from small items such as notepads, T-shirts, hats and cards for free fuel to holidays abroad. The biggest prize of the show that will be presented by Alsu will be the keys to a brand new Suzuki Swift.
