The case of the murder of former Bulgarian Prime Minister Andrei Lukanov will go to trial on November 14, announced the Sofia City Court on Sunday. Lukanov, who headed two Socialist cabinets after 1989, was shot dead on October 2, 1996 in front of his home in Sofia. A 15-member panel of the Sofia City Court will hear the case. Five people have been charged with the murder of Lukanov - Ukrainians Alexei Kichatov and Alexander Russov, construction entrepreneur Angel Vassilev, his nephew Georgi Georgiev, and Yuri Lenev, a former employee in Kolonel, Vassilev's company. Vassilev allegedly ordered the murder while Lenev and Georgiev acted as intermediaries for hiring a group of Ukrainian nationals living in Elin Pelin (near Sofia).
