Street-side meditation

The illuminated fountain in front of the Presidency is no longer the only landmark on the square next to the building on 1 Dondukov Blvd. One more attention-capturing piece of art has been set up there - a sculpture made of manure and willow.

The avant-garde plastic construction was created by architect Boyko Kadinov and sculpturer Pavel Koychev. The creators have called it Dwelling or Something More About the Gene.

Two metal ladders lead to the inside part of the Dwelling which can accommodate up to 12 people. The construction was erected with a spiritual purpose - people can sit in a special chair put inside and meditate. The creators said that their purpose was to offer a place for meditation but those who cannot meditate can at least sit and think about where the human race is coming from and where it is going.

At a special ceremony on Monday, Sofia Mayor Stefan Sofianski officially opened the sculpture which will stay in front of the Presidency until Monday. Sofianski was also among the first people to climb up the ladder and meditate in the heart of the Dwelling.

Kadinov said that when making the sculpture they tried to achieve a contrast between the yellow cobblestone road and the primitive materials the work was made of.

The authors have already received offers to show their work in the U.S. and Canada. They have also shared with Sofianski their idea for the launching of a museum of modern art in Sofia.
