An MP from the Union of Democratic Forces was beaten near his home in Pleven on Saturday, the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry announced on Sunday. At around 8.40am, two young people attacked Vassil Vassilev from behind and hit his head and body with a hard object.

The incident took place in the centre of Pleven when Vassilev went out to buy some newspapers. The MP was admitted to the emergency ward at 8.55am. He had not lost consciousness and now has several stitches on his head and right leg. Vasssilev said he had not received any threats before the accident. He was the chairman of the UDF regional branch and used to be deputy governor of the region before entering Parliament.
