191kg of heroin seized

Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the border with Turkey seized 204 packages of heroin weighing a total of 191kg on Saturday, announced the Customs Agency. The heroin was stored in a hidden compartment in the floor of a Mercedes truck with Turkish plates travelling from Turkey to Germany. According to the Customs Agency, the heroin was worth about 17 million leva. A Turk identified by his initials T. F., who was driving the truck, was arrested and the case has been forwarded to the Svilengrad investigative authorities.

Since the appointment of the new customs management on August 1, customs officers have confiscated 420kg of narcotics. The haul from 11 smuggling attempts is 3.87kg of amphetamines, 0.010kg of opium, 154.89kg of marijuana, 235.99kg of heroin and 15.31kg of hashish.
