Zucchero snakes his way to Bulgaria

Zucchero, one of the most prominent Italian musicians, is coming to Bulgaria to present his new album Snake. The CD and audio cassette are under the Virginia Records label and available in music stores.

The visit to Sofia is part of the European tour of the singer whose real name is Sugar Fornaciari. While in Bulgaria, Zucchero will not have a promotional concert but will be a guest of Slavi Trifonov's Show on bTV, on October 22, when he will perform songs from his new album, announced Radostina Ranova, public relations officer of Virginia Records.

The singer gained fame and became one of the most popular Italian performers after his participation in the Italian music festival San Remo in 1982. His popularity flew over the borders of Italy in 1991, thanks to his successful duet with Peal Young with the single "Senza Una Donna" (Without a Woman). The same year he recorded an album with his best songs performed in English which headed the British Top 20.

Snake is the first album Zucchero has recorded in a studio for two years. It contains 11 songs which are a combination of balladic rhythms and powerful vocals coming close to spiritual sound. The single "Baila" (Sexy Thing) has already turned into a popular hit broadcast on European radio and TV. The video of the song is directed by Kevin Godly who was the director of U2's "Sweetest Thing" and "Stuck in a Moment," Sting's "After the Rain has Fallen" and Peter Gabriel's "Rise."

Zucchero said that the album is full of energy and sensuality, which, according to him, meant pleasure coming from his mind rather than his body. The performer sees the album as having more soul than his previous albums.

Snake is dedicated to jazz musician John Lee Hooker who performed a duet with Zucchero in the song "I Lay Down." That was the last song the jazzman recorded before his death, Ranova said.

The album was recorded in three different countries - Great Britain, Italy and the U.S. It marked a change in Zucchero's management. Roger Forrester, who has always worked with famous blues artists - starting with Jimmy Hendrix and subsequently collaborating for a long time with Eric Clapton - is the singer's new manager.

After Bulgaria, Zucchero will continue his European tour and go to meet his fans in France.
