Track-and-field marathon for Sofia Cup successful for Stefanov and Mihailova

Petko Stefanov from Stara Zagora and Milka Mihailova from Pernik on Sunday became the winners in the 19th edition of the track-and-field marathon for the Sofia Cup, which is at the same time a state championship. Stefanov came first among the men with a time of 2.21:18. This was his fifth victory in the Sofia marathon after winning in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 2000. Second, 2.54 minutes behind him, was Alexander Andonov from Nessebar and third, 5.38 minutes behind, was Dimitar Dimitrov from Silistra.

Mihailova finished first among the women with a time of 2.40:54 and for the second time in a row won the Sofia marathon. Second was Ukraine's Nina Kovrijkina, who finished 13.22 minutes behind her and third, 37.47 minutes later, was Emanuela Yankova from Dobrich. A total of 1,400 people took part in the marathon for the Sofia Cup, and the largest number took part in the mass start for 3.5km - 1,000 people. Thirty men and nine women made the classic distance of 42.195km.
