A fight over journalist restrictions in the Sports Chamber

Thu, Nov 01 2001 13:00 CET 42 Views
Last Thursday, a fight took place in the foyer of the Sports Chamber in Sofia. The security guards of the building started a brawl with journalists from the Bulgarian National Television, bTV and the Sofia dailies.

One of the bodyguards of the private security firm Certus, a retired colonel from the Communist-era militia, even took out a loaded gun. The situation took place as a result of the journalists insisting on covering the session of the executive council of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation which was underway at that time.

The management of the State Agency for Youth and Sports, which administers the building, offered their official apologies to the media. It has been clarified that the order not to allow journalists came from the management of the wrestling federation.
