Offenders with pending cases to be kept in custody

Thu, Nov 01 2001 13:00 CET 22 Views
The Code of Criminal Procedure may be amended to make the keeping in custody of offenders with two or more pending trials compulsory, said Interior Minister Georgi Petkanov, on the way to an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday. This regulatory change will affect some 4,000 people.

With regard to the idea of the Ministry to publish a list with the names of such offenders, Petkanov said that this would not violate their human rights because their presence on such a list would not convict them automatically but would simply serve as a warning that there is a trial pending against the particular offender.
