VENETIAN adventurer, philosopher, poet, musician and autobiographer Giacomo Casanova will be reborn at the Stefan Makedonski Music Theatre on November 22. The premier of Casanova became a reality because of the hard work of theatre director Svetozar Donev, composer Georgi Kostov and librettist Yuri Dachev.
The vision of the ever-loving Italian character will feature him falling in love for the first time in his life. There will be eroticism, finesse and drama in the story, according to Donev.
"He will meet the love of his life and he will not be prepared for it," Donev said. Casanova is an erotic musical, a genre that has never been shown in Bulgaria before. The outcome of the love story is a personal drama in Casanova's life and will create a different view of the famous lover, Donev said. "The eroticism in the musical is not vulgar. The theatre troupe has managed to convey the life of a famous man with a different destiny. Casanova is the seducer, skilful intrigue-maker but also the unexpectedly love-trapped man," said Donev.
The theatrical genre is open to wide audiences with mixed tastes and they will be offered complete satisfaction through the combination of Kostov's songs and Dachev's libretto.
Donev said that the musical is far from being predictable and does not end with a happy love affair. Instead it unexpectedly looks into the eyes of an elderly lover whose loneliness urged him to alcohol. "He is on stage with his glass, being lonely like an outcast," said Donev.
The premier itself is dedicated to the 100th birthday of Mimi Balkanska commemorating the grand dame of Bulgarian opera. All the leading actors and singers from the theatre's troupe will be performing in the musical. Mario Nikolov, Bogomil Spirov, Mariana Arsenova, Luydmila Kozareva, Aron Aronov and Alexander Mutafchiiski are all going to appear on stage conducted by Yuli Damianov.
The famous song by Georgi Kostov "To Cherish You" will be used as a background throughout the whole performance together with attractive dances, costumes and the choir. The cast features conductor Yuli Damianov, artist Evgenia Raeva, choreographer Svetlin Ivelinov and choirmaster Luydmil Gorchev.
