RAINFALL INCREASES DANUBE RIVER LEVEL IN BULGARIA

The Danube River level near Vidin increased to 792 cm as a result of the intense rainfall in Bulgaria.

Vidin mayor Ivan Tsenov issued an order for the constant monitoring of the river level, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

Everyday the municipal committee for civil defence would receive expert information concerning the water level and the weather forecast for the coming five days.

An additional 40cm river level increase would result in the flooding of a region of the Vidin-Montana road near the village of Archar, the national radio reported. For the time being the road is accessible.

No regions face a state of emergency threat, head of Irrigation Systems Aleksander Tsvetkov said.

The Danube level would be monitored near Rousse and Silistra, as well. According to prognoses the waters would continue rising in the coming days, after which a decrease is expected.

The rainfall also led to problems in Sofia. The downpours flooded Arsenalski Boulevard and parts of Ivan Vazov district. Because of the thunderstorms several towns and villages experienced power cuts.
