Interior Minister Roumen Petkov said that Italy had provided all documents related to the corruption evidence against former Bulgarian prime minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg.
On June 17 Italian prosecution revealed information that Saxe-Coburg was trying to grant his cousin Prince Victor Emmanuel and businessman Pierpaolo Cerani hospital construction rights in exchange for political financing.
The Interior Ministry said that it would examine the documents closely and would consult with Prosecution whether new inspection on the hospital deal was necessary, Darik Radio reported.
On June 21 the National Assembly refused to vote the declaration featuring anti-corruption measures proposed by the rightist parties. The declaration proposed active involvement of the government in the investigation and dismissal of all people suspected of being involved in the scheme.
Another anti-corruption measure the declaration proposed was recalling former prosecutor-general Nikola Filchev from Kazakhstan, where he serves his term as ambassador, as he was accused of deliberately concealing the corruption evidence.
Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) leader Petar Stoyanov said that the parliament's refusal to pass the declaration was in effect approval of the corruption practices in the country. Vesselin Metodiev from Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) said that the refusal would harm Bulgaria's image abroad.
