Bulgaria will find out on July 24 the type of limitations EU would impose in relation to the outbreak of bird flu among domestic birds in Slunchogled village.
Bulgaria already banned the sale of live birds, Dnevnik newspaper reported. The transportation of animals in the affected region has also been forbidden, Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil said,
On Sunday July 23 veterinarians said the outbreak was under control after the culling of all birds in the village.
As a result of the outbreak banks could refuse credits to producers, affecting the industry, representatives of the organisation of Bulgarian poultry producers said. An eventual ban on bird flu exports would not produce long-lasting results, said they.
According to producers the European Commission could be lenient and could ban export of products from the affected Bulgarian regions only.
Since the beginning of the year the demand for poultry products within the country went down because of the bird flu threat. Analysts said that even if birds carried the virus, poultry products underwent thermal procedures which made them harmless for consumers.
