New disinfection procedures were carried out in Slunchogled village as a precaution against the spread of bird flu.

Last week the first instance of bird flu outbreak among domestic birds in Bulgaria was registered in the village located in the Kurdzhali region.

All birds in Slunchogled were culled to prevent further spread of the infection. This week veterinarians said that the outbreak was already under control.

The village underwent two disinfection procedures already, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.

A quarantine of the region would remain in force until August 10. A 21-day quarantine was standard in case of such infections, veterinarians said.

If further cases do not occur once the quarantine is over, people in Slunchogled would be permitted to take care of domestic birds once again, BTA reported.
