Three foreign companies were interested in Bulgarian Hemus highway, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Assen Gagauzov said as quoted by Darik Radio.
Hemus highway would be given on concession according to new regulations. Bulgaria would launch an international tender for the planning and the construction of the highway, Gagauzov said.
The total length of the highway would be 450 km. Nearly 164 km of them were already constructed, Darik said.
Hemus highway would pass 15 km to the South of Pleven and 20 to the North of Lovech, Gagauzov said.
The construction of the highway would cost about one billion euro.
Gagauzov also said that according to the Cabinet's infrastructure plans Trakia and Maritsa highways have to be finished and the construction of Hemus, Struma and Black Sea highways had to begin before the end of the Cabinet's mandate.
Struma motorway's lots are considered too complex to complete by 2013, so funds are to be relocated to Trakiya motorway instead.
Strong public opposition to price hikes prompted Prime Minister Boiko Borissov to axe the Finance Ministry proposal to increase the excise duty on spirits, but MPs have put it back on the agenda.
