Ancient finds worth $117 000 are stored at the border checkpoint in Svishtov due to legal ambiguities.
The finds date back to the Roman times and have been found during joint Polish-Bulgarian excavation works, Focus news agency reported.
Seven years ago the treasures were legally taken out of the country to undergo renovation in Poland.
According to Bulgarian law the finds lost their local goods status, since they were out of the country for more than three years. To enter the country, the treasures would be taxed and the duty is expected to reach up to 40 000 leva.
The management of the Svishtov History Museum will request from the national customs agency the freeing of the treasures from customs taxes.
Among the finds are bronze objects, stone sculptures, glass artifacts and others.
