BLACK SEA DISCUSSIONS
The Bulgarian-Dutch project "My Coast", which aims to work out a plan for the future development of Black Sea resorts, is beginning. The project's manager Miroslava Teodorova made the announcement, Dnevnik daily reported on March 9. "My Coast" is an initiative of the Regional Development and Public Works Ministry in co-operation with the Transport Ministry, the Environment and Water Affairs Ministry and the State Agency for Tourism. Financing is provided by the Dutch government. The team included Bulgarian and Dutch experts. In the first stage of the project, a large range of opinions will be collected regarding how the Bulgarian Black Sea coast would look in 2030. The second stage will see the working out of a concrete implementation plan. The budget of the project is 400 000 euro and the deadline for its realisation is the end of 2008.
IMPROVING THE AIRPORTS
By the beginning of this summer, the concessionaire of the Varna and Bourgas airports is planning to open a new departure hall. This was announced by Andreas Helfer, the CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management Ltd, Dnevnik daily reported on March 8. The new hall will be located in the premises of the temporary terminal 5, which was built last year. The point is to use the full capacity of the terminal until a new one is built. The project is worth two million euro and it includes 10 new check-in desks, two baggage carousels, shops and cafes. By the end of the year, Fraport will have invested 10 million euro altogether in renovating the technology and equipment of the terminals, and improving customer service at both airports.
RENOVATING VARNA
Investment in Varna's infrastructure this year will be double what it was last year, Dnevnik daily reported on March 8. This year almost 60 million euro will be invested, while last year it was just under 30 million leva. About 25 million leva will be invested in renovation of the city's main roads; 1.18 million leva are planned for improving the sewer systems of some of some neighbourhoods. Varna's 2007 budget is 193 million leva in total, slightly more than last year's.
OPEN DAY
Kavarna municipality is taking part in the seventh national initiative "Manager for a Day", the municipality's press centre announced on March 12. Seventeen high school students joined the departments of the administration and town halls in Bulgarevo and Belgun. The aim was for children to be immersed in a real working atmosphere and for employers to share their experiences with them. Such open days are considered a big success around the world. Moreover, by visiting an open day, children could decide to choose municipal administration as a career option.
The funding is provided under the foreign military sales programme of the US army's Program Executive Office of Simulation, Training and Instrumentation.
The UK nationals were arrested after throwing beer bottles at people after being refused entry to a restaurant that had closed for the night.
Restoration and development projects include Madara Horseman, Arbanassi fortress, Magura cave.
Simeon Saxe-Coburg and his spouse Margarita opened a new heating and insulation system at the Tsar Ferdinand Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases in Iskrets, a project implemented thanks to the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Sofia and the Nando Peretti Foundation.
According to the law's provisions, the commission will have the power to investigate individuals without prior notification and would not require a criminal conviction in order to launch an investigation.
