LARGE AMOUNT OF ANCIENT ARTEFACTS SEIZED AT BULGARIA'S BORDER CHECKPOINT

The Customs Agency, National Border Police Service, and Chief Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and custom officers seized a huge amount of ancient artefacts at the Kalotina border checkpoint.

A Bulgarian citizen, aged 42, tried to smuggle the artifacts from Turkey to Germany, Customs Agency press release reported.

The artefacts were hidden in five cardboard boxes in the trailer and the cabin of the cargo vehicle.

The total weight of the artefacts exceeds 50kg.

Numerous adornments, earrings, bracelets, rings seals, crosses and accoutrements, as well as parts of shields, a helmet and a sword featured among the seized artifacts.

An expert evaluation of the artifacts was to follow, the press release said.
