Bulgaria's Cabinet approved an additional list of areas for protection of natural habitats and wild flora and fauna under Natura 2000, increasing the list to include a total of 28 per cent of Bulgaria's territory.

The list includes 27 protected areas and totals 1.467 billion sq m or 13.21 per cent of the territory of the country.

The newly designated zones excludes living areas, areas with approved an zoning plan and territories of public importance, a Council of ministers press release said.

With the new list, the total number of the protected areas reaches 295, or 28 per cent of the territory of the country.
