Bourgas court approves agreement with drug boss

Bourgas regional court approved a cooperation agreement with one of the major drug bosses in Bulgaria, Dimitar Zhelyazkov, aka Mitio Ochite (Mitio the eyes).

On January 25 2008, Zhelyazkov admitted all accusations of the Bourgas prosecutors office against him.

After the confessions, Zhelyazkov and another 12 members of his criminal gang signed an agreement with the Bourgas prosecution to cooperate.

Zhelyazkov would serve 4.5 years in prison, Focus news agency said. He would be deprived of 18 000 leva and a mobile phone. Zhelyazkov had already served one year in prison.

The other leader of the gang, Yanko Gyurov, who is considered mastermind of the gang, will serve four years and four months in prison.

Seven of the members of the gang are accused of creating and managing an armed criminal gang involved in dealing drug.

Zhelyazkov and 16 of his close associates were arrested in April 2007 on charges of participation in an organised drug and weapon smuggling ring.
