Martin Petrov and Valeri Bojinov could leave Manchester City just one season after joining the English Premier League club, with club owner Thaksin Shinawatra reportedly ready to sell the entire senior team.

The Thai billionaire was so unhappy with the team's performance in the second half of the season that he wanted a "massive clear-out", The Daily Express reported on May 16.

"City's owner, it is understood, has written a letter to each member of the team conveying his feelings. He has put all contract talks on hold and wants to start next season from scratch with a new manager and new players," according to the paper.

Shinawatra's three-year plan, which he made public after his takeover of the club went through last summer, required manager Sven Goran Eriksson to guide the team to a top-half finish. A big ask for a team that flirted with relegation a year earlier, setting a new record low for the number of goals scored at home.

City's strong start to the season saw the club in the top four places, guaranteeing a spot in Champions League qualifying, as late as January 2, but the team's performance dropped in the following months, which saw City finish the season in ninth place.

"The news of the impending fire sale throws City even deeper into turmoil and will further antagonise fans, who staged a mass demonstration against Shinawatra last week," The Daily Express said.

Not even the players that performed well, which would include Petrov, one of City's most consistent performers this year, would be kept on the books, the paper said.

The Bulgarian winger, however, was unlikely to suffer from a lack of suitors, having established himself in the league this year, prompting The Sun to name him in the list of this season's top 10 transfers earlier this month.

Tottenham, who were interested in signing Petrov last summer, were expected to renew their pursuit, according to The Daily Express. However, the chances of Bulgaria's two most dangerous attacking players plying their trade at the same club now appears slim, with striker Dimitar Berbatov poised to leave White Hart Lane, according to reports in English press.

Bojinov, who only made a handful of appearances for City before suffering a season-ending cruciate ligaments injury in the Manchester derby in September, was also likely to leave, especially with Shinawatra poised to sack Eriksson, a known admirer of the Bulgarian striker, in the off-season.
