Busy cultural weekend in Bulgaria's capital

As if the concerts of Kiss on May 16 and Kylie Minogue two days later is not enough for one weekend, Sofia is overflowing with other cultural events this weekend. Saturday May 17 is Museum Night in Bulgaria, along with other European countries. Museums and galleries in Sofia will be open and have special programmes until the hours of May 18. Also on May 17 the Sofia Underground 2008 festival will take place in the galleries of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.

The Archaeological museum, the Army museum, Galleria Akademiya, Sofia City Gallery, the National and the International Gallery of the Arts are all open until late for Museum Night, along with the Poly-technical museum, the Literature museum, Musical Centre Boris Hristov and others.
Most museums have special concerts and programmes, from the Army Brass Orchestra, the Children Instrumental Band, theatre, jazz, new exhibitions to a dance performance at the International Gallery of the Arts.

The programme for Sofia Underground 2008 includes 20 live performance projects with visiting artists from Austria, Romania, the Netherlands and Germany, alongside Bulgarian artists and performers. The festival opens on May 17 at noon with a performance by Maya Antonva and will continue until the early hours of May 18, when Ambient Anarchist will close the festival with a two-hour performance.
