Five companies are competing in a Sofia municipal tender for the reconstruction of Bruxel Boulevard connecting Tsarigradsko Shousse with Sofia airport.

Two foreign companies - Austrian Alpine Bau and Spanish Cyes Bulgaria - as well as the Bulgarian firms Glavbolgarstroy, Moststroy and Consotrium Bruzel are in the race, Bulgarian-language Zagrada.bg quoted Sofia municipality as saying on August 5. The candidates' offers have not yet been viewed but they will be revealed in the middle of August.

The cost of repairing the boulevard leading to Sofia airport is expected to reach about 13 million leva. When it was last renovated it cost a mere 2.4 million leva but on that occasion only the asphalt was changed, welcoming the Olympic torch. Aside from changing the road surface, the pending repairs will strengthen the boulevard's bridge and improve its overall appearance. Reconstruction is expected to last for 14 months.

Sofia city hall has, so far, secured funds only for the repairs' projecting, while the money for the actual reconstruction of Brussels Boulevard is expected to come from the Regional Development operational programme. Repairs will start when finances have been received.

The three most important criteria for choosing a company to complete the work are the technical parameters, the price and the timeframe for the work's completion.

One of the bidders, the Bulgarian company Moststroy, has already completed numerous municipal and state projects. The Austrian competitor Alpine Bau has specialised in the construction of water clearing stations, dams and hydro cascades and is currently building the hydro assembly Tsankov Kamuk and repairing the road Sofia-Kalotina border check point in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian subsidiary of the Spanish company Cyes also specialise in constructing water and sewerage systems. The next competitor for the reconstruction of Bruxel Boulevard local Consotrium Bruxel, which comprises the companies Putconsult 2000 and Three S, is currently doing the repairs of the Bulgarian mountain pass Hainboaz.
