Getting Bulgarian citizenship is no easy task, often involving a wait of years. Yet, for one foreigner unaware that he automatically and officially had citizenship by virtue of birth, it meant a bureaucratic obstacle to going ahead with his wedding day.

The issue of The Sofia Echo published on August 29 2008 has full details of the strange story, as recounted by reporter Svetlana Guineva.

The Sofia Echo this week also brings it the latest issue of our special supplement Month2Come, with its regular features on the newest in entertainment in Bulgaria in September 2009, at the movies, theatre and galleries, along with Magdalena Rahn's article on wine buying and a look into some of the best in glassware on the Bulgarian market, Lydia Dimitrova on the topic of buying the best mattress, Petar Kostadinov on a tourist expedition to Macedonia, while Gabriel Hershman introduces you to leading chef Dimitar Damyanov and sits down for a chat with expatriate John Hazlewood.

Elsewhere in The Sofia Echo, Elitsa Grancharova gives an update on the scene at Bulgaria's Black Sea beaches, Elena Koinova explores the latest from Georgia, while Alex Bivol examines Bulgaria's shortcomings in dealing with pyramid financial schemes.

In the features section, Libby Gomersall gives her take on street dogs while Rory Parsons serves up witty account of his encounter with Bulgaria's health care system - and we think that it will leave you in stitches.

The Sofia Echo also has its regular venue and restaurant reviews, cinema, entertainment and television listings and social pages, while on the sports pages, the newspaper recounts the latest controversy surrounding referees in Bulgaria.
