The European Commission's translation department has announced that the next Juvenes Translatores 2008 (Young Translators) contest will take place on November 27. Close to 690 schools within the European Union will demonstrate language skills.
Bulgarian students born in 1991 from 20 schools can register for participation from September 1 until October 20. After the last day of registration the EC will randomly select which of the qualifying schools get to entrust four of their students to compete for the best translation alongside students from other countries.
Students may choose a language combination of their liking as long as they use two of the languages spoken in the EU.
Professional translators will evaluate and judge the best translation from every member state. Winners will be invited to Brussels in 2009 to participate in an award ceremony and meet each other as well as some of the EU translators.
The contest promotes and encourages the study and use of foreign languages in Europe.
