The landfill in the village of Buchino near the south-western city of Blagoevgrad started burning on September 10. On September 11 the cause of the fire was still unclear. The fire has now been extinguished but several people still take shifts at the landfill, private broadcaster bTV reported.
Plovdiv landfill Tsalapitsa fire is under control but several fires are continuing to smoulder. The wind is fanning the fire and creating a higher than normal level of dust in the entire Plovdiv region. The reason for the fire is unknown but officials suspect arson.
On September 11 the operational headquarters will meet to discuss the fire in Rila National Park. If last night's situation does not change, the Ministry of Emergency Situations looks set to announce that the fire is completely extinguished. The fire lasted eight days and burned more than 130ha.
The procedure for the new cable car is not yet approved, but the lift is already ferrying people, among them children, eco activists claim.
