Sofia Municipality will have at its disposal a budget of 41 million leva for next year, of which 27 million will have been spent by the end of this year. An extra 14 million will come from profits and local taxes. The money will be made available for work on the city's infrastructure from the beginning of the new year, announced the deputy mayor Minko Gerdzikov, as quoted by Dnevnik.
Approximately seven million leva has been allocated for the renovation and modernisation of middle and high schools in the capital. From the same pot, money will be allocated for electricity and Toplofikatsiya. A further three million leva will be used to build new play schools for about 1200 children. One million leva will be channelled into healthcare. Finally, 9.6 million leva will be invested in renovating and upgrading the streets in disrepair in several areas of the city.
Reconstruction of main roads like Konstantin Velichkov and Danail Nikolaev will be delayed, according to Gerdzikov, as stated by Stroitelstvo. One reason for the delay is the lawsuits which running for the past three years, concerning areas around these boulevards that need to be nationalised so that work can begin on expanding and widening them. The municipality hopes the nationalisation programme will be completed by the end of this year so work on the roads can resume.
