Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport welcomed on December 7 2008 its three millionth passenger since it was opened in December 2006, Bulgarian news agency Focus reported.

The lucky passenger was Bulgarian Yavor Poptoshev arriving on a Bulgaria Air flight from London. He was personally welcomed by Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev and the airport management.

Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport is the most modern Bulgarian airport terminal. It was opened weeks before Bulgaria joined the European Union on January 1 2007 and serves mainly major airlines. The old terminal now known as Terminal 1 was left to service low-cost companies.

While Moutafchiev was handing out presents to Poptoshev, airport employees were working on repairing a 20sq.m section of the roof of Terminal 2 blown off by strong winds on December 5 2008, an incident in which no one was injured.
