On December 14, Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov and Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev will turn the first sod of a new metro line that will connect the Nadezhda borough with the city's centre, Bulgarian daily Dnevnik said.

The line will run from Nadezhda, through the central railway station and Sveta Nedelya Square on to boulevard Cherni Vruh. The 6.5km long line will have seven stations.

The project is valued at 185 million euro and will be financed under the Operation Programme Transport. Most funding will come from the European fund for regional development, with 28 million euro in local co-funding, Dnevnik said.

Sofia municipality will be the owner of the finished line.
