He is not just your regular English acoustic folk pop singer-songwriter whose debut album, Back to Bedlam, and single releases, especially "You're Beautiful", brought him world acclaim in 2005. Not that this beautiful song was alone. And if you knew a little about his personal life, you won't be too wrong to assume that he is not coming to Sofia only for his music. In fact, James Blunt isn't that blunt at all.
Apart from his rather unique musical style - a rich blend of pop, rock and English folk which won Blunt won two BRIT Awards and two Ivor Novello Awards, and nominated him for five Grammy Awards in 2006, he has a few other hidden talents.
Since the British Army sponsored his university education, Blunt was obliged to serve a minimum four years in the forces. While at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Life Guards, a unit of the Household Cavalry where he rose to the rank of Captain. After serving in BATUS - British Army Training Unit Suffield in Alberta - Canada, he was sent on his first operational deployment overseas. In 1999, he served as an armoured reconnaissance officer in the NATO deployment in Kosovo. Initially assigned to reconnaissance of the Macedonia-Yugoslavia border, Blunt and his unit worked ahead of the frontlines, directing forces and targeting Serb positions for the NATO bombing campaign. He led the first squadron of troops to enter Pristina, and was the first British officer to enter the Kosovo capital.
But his many talents don't end here. A keen skier, Blunt captained the Household Cavalry Alpine Ski Team, in Verbier, Switzerland, eventually becoming champion skier of the entire Royal Armoured Corps. It is not hard to imagine that, after the show in Sofia at NDK, to the delight of his many fans, Blunt might just sample the delights of Vitosha Mountain for good measure as well.
His second album, All The Lost Souls, in 2007, was certified gold within its first week of release, a follow-up to his hugely successful 2004 debut album, Back to Bedlam. The first single released from the album was "1973".
On February 22, fans will be delighted to hear masterpieces such as "One of the Brightest Stars", "I'll Take Everything", "Same Mistake", "Carry You Home" and "I Really Want You".
