A railway to hell?

Mon, Feb 16 2009 18:04 CET 1244 Views 2 Comments
No, this is not a wish for hearing the Hell's Bells. Literally. It is just a sad feeling gone unbearable. AC/DC is not coming to Bulgaria, but then... Madonna is.

Maybe this loathing is uncalled for. Respect to all Madonna fans.

But to ease the pain comes the Kavarna Rock'n Roll Train, which would take Bulgaria's AC/DC worshipers to Belgrade where the concert will take place on May 26. It is an initiative by Tsonko Tsonev, the "metal" mayor of Kavarna, who in recent years became notorious for offering a venue to heavy metal bands that still have a steady fan base in Bulgaria.

The train will depart from Sofia central railway station on May 26 and will carry directly to Belgrade 30 cars specifically traveling toward one and only destination – AC/DC live.

Anyone interested could choose from three package prices. They include the ticket price together with a two-way train ticket and organised transportation from the Belgrade's train station to Partizan stadium.

The prices run from 195 leva (general admission), 215 leva (reserved seats) and VIP tickets for 270 leva. Tickets go on sale on February 19 2009 at 9am. The only outlets they could be purchased from are the office of Z-Rock radio on 3 Yanko Sakuzov Street, between 9am and 5.30pm; from the office of tourist agency Lidia Tours on 22 Khan Asparouh Street and at the Kavarna city hall on 50 Dobrotitsa Str.

Important details to remember: one person could buy no more than four tickets, while under-age concert-goers must have written parental permission, translated into Serbian and certified by a public notary.

What if I already have an AC/DC ticket? Can I board the rock'n'roll train? I'm from Romania!

Construction of the new Sofia to Vidin railway line must start by 2013

Once the overhaul and reconstruction of the Sofia–Vidin line is complete, it will cut travel time to three hours, as the train will be able to reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, shortening the journey to three hours.
