With the airport's new terminal commencing operation in August, local authorities believe it will be a great boost for the local economy, investment and regional development.

Plovdiv airport needed more flights from low-cost carriers in order to develop and progress, government officials and experts said at a round table discussion on March 12 2008. This is a major milestone in opening up central Bulgaria to Europe. If marketed professionally the tired sadly neglected suburbs of Plovdiv could soon be transformed into chic equivalents of our airport connecting towns. This will create much needed employment and the knock on effect i.e. service industry is encouraging.
Lets hope the no fringe airlines get their fingers out,it will save me two hours each way on my present journey from Sofia.
Great - now we just need a nonstop from JFK!

Nice one! Been waiting for this for ages - will mean good things for the city too, which in my humble opinion is the coolest town in BG and has a lot of potential ( and this development will make trips to see the in-laws so much easier!!)
I welcome trips to BG without Sofia!
