Pleven district governor Tsvetko Tzvetkov has asked Emergency Situations Minister Emel Etem for 50 000 leva for works in the protected area of park Kaylaka, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.

The funds were needed to restore damages from the winter, Tzvetkov said.

Both the park and the river Tuchenishka that flows through it needed to have fallen trees and broken branches and bushes cleared, according to Tzvetkov.

Existing plans for the park include renovation of recreation and sports areas, as well as new pavement for paths around two reservoirs in the park and a wine museum.

Kaylaka large park and protected area, situated in a Karst valley south of Pleven. The park includes the ruins of the Roman fortress of Storgosia, as well as ponds and reservoirs with boats and pedalos, a swimming pool, hotels, cafés, restaurants, discotheques and playgrounds.

The park was set up in 1946 by an initiative committee, headed by Lieutenant General Ivan Vinarov.

The decision was brought about by the presence of the many plans, projects and investment offers for construction in the protected zone; their realisation would likely cause irreversible damage.
