The pressure of the season is starting have its toll on champions Manchester United as their worsening injury crisis is made worse by an ever-strangulating fixture congestion. Manchester United have had their Everton clash postponed until January 31 2009, as Everton themselves will face an extra fixture (as will Liverpool) due to their FA Cup replay, scheduled on February 4.
Danny Guthrie has given Joe Kinnear and his Newcastle United side a welcome fitness boost after beating the flu that had ravaged him, ahead of Saturday's league clash with West Ham.
Boxing day, December 26, will pit West Bromwich Albion, who are currently at the bottom of the Premiership, against second Chelsea. A victory over Albion will see Chelsea climb ahead of Liverpool at least temporarily. West Brom will be mentally reinforced by their Sunday dramatic last minute win over Manchester City, and any means of boost will be welcomed for their trip to Stamford Bridge particularly when taking into consideration that so far, Chelsea hold a 100 per cent Premier League record against West Bromwich, and should Chelsea win again at home, this would be the eight consecutive victory over Albion.
Liverpool managed to ascend the Premier League summit after another disappointing draw with another disappointing side like West Ham - their title aspirations remaining only that - hopes coated with glitter and hardly any substance. It is hard to imagine that in two matches in a row at Anfield Liverpool can't score a single goal. And when the tactics apparently consist of hoofing and crossing the ball constantly in the box, one is left to wonder why Rafa sold Crouch in the first place and settled for Keane who hardly sniffed the ball all night. Crouch scored 18 plus goals last campaign, bearing in mind he only ever came out as a sub. It would be hard to imagine Keane coming even close to that feat.
CSKA Sofia are bottom of Europa League group E with one point and their next match is against Fulham at Craven Cottage on December 3
Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia are out of contention for the knockout stages of the Uefa Europa League.
Should CSKA register another defeat in the competition, and if concurrently, Fulham beat Roma away, the Bulgarian side will be out of contention for the further stages of the competition
Levski Sofia are bottom of Group G with no points from three matches and a goal difference of 0-6
CSKA president: the players apologised sincerely for their actions and will be reinstated back into the first team.
