DJ Sasha to perform on Metropolis' birthday

Zimen Dvorets has been used in the past to stage concerts by Faithless and Manu Chao

Following the triumphant party featuring Sven Vath in Universiada Hall, Metropolis have raised the bar as far as memorable parties are concerned, and in their own right, they are organising another such event  for their upcoming birthday.

On May 16, starting at 11pm, at the Zimen Dvorets na Sporta (Winter Palace of Sport), the electronic crowd in Bulgaria will celebrate its 13th year birthday with the participation of DJs Sacha, Steven, Yasen Petrov and Smurfa, Dnevnik daily reports.

DJ Sasha, a musician and a producer is enjoying his conspicuous stance in the world of international electronic music, currently occupying seventh place, according to the renowned classification of DJ Mag. Moreover, DJ Sasha has never been out of the top 10 since 1997.

In 2008, he released the hits "Who Killed Sparky?" and "Mongoose" - tracks which won the acclaim and gravitated the attention of world famous DJ's Dubfire, Sven Vath and John Digweed.

Sasha's latest album, "Invol2ver" wreaked havoc amongst his fans and the fans of electronic music in general, as it was one of the most anticipated releases of 2008 and it certainly did not disappoint the fans and critics. The album has been heralded as a future classic in the branch, with a "breathtaking mix of music legends such as Ladytron, Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and the Spooky duo."

DJ Carl Cox is Metropolis' birthday present

Metropolis, one of the originals on the Bulgarian electronic music scene, is celebrating its 12th birthday on April 19 with a bash at which British DJ Carl Cox will spin. The party will be held at the Zimen Dvorets na Sporta (Winter Palace of Sport) in Studentski Grad in Sofia. This will be Cox's third visit to Bulgaria, his most recent being in December 2004, when the nine-hour show for 5000 fans, with Bulgarian band Gravity Co as the warm-up act, was considered Metropolis' best party ever.

Techno party flop

Techno fans expecting to be taken up Vitosha Mountain for what Standart newspaper billed as "the most extravagant techno music party ever organized in Bulgaria" were disappointed last Saturday night. Instead of a free cable car to Aleko lift station, high on the mountain, they were herded into a car park at Simeonovo, the base of the lift.
