Champions League: Arsenal faces Villarreal at Emirates

Arsenal are level at 1-1 with Villarreal after the first leg, having scored that vital away goal to give them a confidence boost in the return encounter at Emirates Stadium on April 15. This has been heralded as the 'make or break' week for Arsenal's season, but the Gunners will have to do the business having suffered a new double injury blow in addition to their already battered squad.

Arsene Wenger, however, is "convinced" that Arsenal supporters can create a red-hot atmosphere at their ground to intimidate their Spanish opposition and propel Arsenal to success.

Speaking at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Wenger urged Arsenal’s ‘12th man’ to "uphold the English reputation and crank up the volume for the clash".

"I want an intimidating atmosphere and I count on our supporters to be strongly behind the team in a fair way," said the manager. England has a reputation abroad for its fans really having a strong voice behind the team. I am convinced our fans will do that tomorrow," he said as quoted by the club's website.

However, the Gunners will be without two of their defenders, Johan Djourou and Gael Clichy ,on the night. Djourou is suffering from a knee injury, while his teammate Clichy's is nursing a back injury  and they were both ruled unfit to play which means the already depleted team is suffering a  further weakening, particularly in the back four because William Gallas who also has a knee problem is still out.

As if all these injuries were not bad enough Swiss international Djourou, 22, was mauled and stretchered off during Arsenal's 4-1 win at Wigan on Saturday.

Mikael Silvestre, himself has just recuperated from a  thigh injury himself, and is likely to be in the starting eleven on Wednesday night as he already collected playing time under his belt at the JJB Stadium on the weekend.

Against the backdrop of the seemingly endless casualty list, the consolation for Arsene Wenger is that Abou Diaby is available whereas Villarreal will be without their experienced midfielder Marcos Senna.
