Prosecutors have pressed charges against 18 Bulgarians as a result of an international police operation against child pornography on the internet, Interior Ministry said on April 28 2009.

In Bulgaria, 21 homes have been searched on April 27-28 2009 by the combined forces of 85 police officers and investigators. Charges were brought against 18 people.

Police established that 21 internet users from Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Bourgas, Vidin, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Svilengrad and Mezdra have downloaded and distributed child pornography on the internet.

During the searches police seized 21 computers, six laptops, 5353 optic discs, 57 video tapes, 12 memory cards, seven hard discs and 18 images depicting the sexual abuse of children.

All 18 suspects have been detained for 72 hours. The international police operation started in 2008 in Germany.
