Team Sofia American football team, playing in black, won its first victory on May 10 2009 in a friendly played in Bucharest against the local Bucharest Warriors, Team Sofia said.

In the heat of Bucharest, the Bulgarian side finally got their sweet victory in front of about 300 spectators. It took the Bulgarian team just a few minutes to score a touchdown and then extend its lead to 12-0 before halftime

The second half saw the hosts try to get back into the game and two defensive mistakes allowed the Warriors to score two touchdowns and tie the score. A third touchdown and a two-point conversion with three minutes to go left the hosts chasing shadows and Team Sofia claimed its first victory, 20-12, in the four matches it has played so far since it was established in 2007.

The team, whose average age is about 20 years old, has invitations to play in Serbia and Turkey and is expected to be one of the key participants in American football Balkan league, which could be set up as early as next year.
