Kidnapping insurance makes debut in Bulgaria

The first insurance against kidnapping in Bulgaria was presented by local insurance company Lev Ins on May 16 2009, Bulgarian media said. The insurance policy will cover the ransom money, the expenses on negotiations and transport, Lev Ins executive director Stefan Sofiyanski told a news conference in Sofia.

The price of the insurance policy will be negotiated individually with every client he said. Lev Ins will work closely with the police he noted. Informing the police is a key condition stipulated by the insurance policy.

The policy has been based on a similar product offered by Lloyd's London and insurance's broker AON Benfiled.

The first ever insurance policy against kidnapping in Bulgaria comes after two cases of kidnapping took place in April 2009 and shocked the country. Businessman Kiro Kirov (70) was held hostage for 17 days in April and was released after his son paid a ransom of hundreds of thousands of euro.

Retired businessman Vene Sotirov (64) is still missing after he was kidnapped on April 16, while entering the residential building in Souhata Reka borough that he lives in.

In 2008, Angel Bonchev, former president of Litex Lovech football club, spent 50 days in captivity. Despite police efforts, his whereabouts remained unknown. He was released after his wife donated a large sum to a charity organisation.

Police still hasn't solved any of the cases

By following that logic homeowners insurance and insurance against bank robbery promotes and exacerbates robbery and theft?? It does not encourage kidnapping - it assists victims in managing not only the financial impact but also the emotional and mental trauma.

This is again a kind of Mafia, friends of mine got already alert of kidnapping, is a big business.
Every rich people will get a phone call that they kidnapped or will someone of the family... and the feeling will be so terrible, after them getting afraid and paranoid, they will sell insurances like warm bread. This insurance is the key of kidnappers business.
