Andy Murray wins Queens one week ahead of Wimbledon

Britain's Andy Murray returns a shot to James Blake of the U.S. during their men's singles final match at the Queen's Club

Andy Murray is confident that he can maintain his form and triumph at  Wimbledon following his victory at Queens Club on June 14, and become Britain's first winner for 71 years.

The current world number three won the Aegon Championships in London with a straight-sets display over American James Blake.

The 22-year-old Scot made the transition to grass with ease, producing another impressive display to overcome the tough opposition of Blake 7-5, 6-4. Murray found Blake arduous to overcome but made the decisive break at 5-5 in the first set.

And with Wimbledon set to commence on June 22, the young British hope is earmarked as one of the main favourites to lift the trophy, along with French Open winner Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal who is currently battling a knee injury.

The Scot said: "I don't think winning Wimbledon is impossible. I go into every tournament with that mentality, that I can win," he said as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Blake fought hard and delivered some winners in the second set. At times it seemed that he would have the edge over the Scot, but he also committed too many errors which were equally counterproductive.

Following his victory at Queens, and given his staggering form of late, as well as Rafael Nadal's questionable physical condition, Murray was hailed as second favourite behind Roger Federer to win Wimbledon.

As he approaches his final preparations for the tournament, Murray said of his Wimbledon chances: "I don’t think it’s impossible and I go into every tournament with the mentality that I can win the event, he said as quoted by the BBC."

"I’ll have to play my best ever tennis to do it because it’s so difficult, and that’s why nobody from Britain has done it in such a long time.
There are two guys ahead of me in the rankings (Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal) who are two of the best players ever, and I’ll probably have to beat both of them to win."
