Nu-Image rubbished rumours that Austrian-born bodybuilder and actor Roland Kickinger was to play Conan the Barbarian in the remake of the famous 1982 film, scheduled to be shot later in 2009.

On June 17, Bulgarian broadcaster Avtora.com said Kickinger would come to Bulgaria to play Conan, the role that marked Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting breakthrough in 1982.

Kickinger recently appeared in another Schwarzenegger role in Terminator Salvation, as a prototype of the T-800 made famous by Schwarzenegger.

A spokesperson for Nu-Image told The Sofia Echo that Kickinger was not signed up to play the part.

The film is to be directed by Marcus Nispel, who also directed the remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th, and is to be shot in Bulgaria and South Africa.
